As the name suggests the lodge was founded in the name of the first Rugby player and was formed primarily for Freemasons involved with the game of Rugby Football who wished to combine the social sides of two equally important facets of their lives.

The Lodge was consecrated in 2001 with 30 founder members, in Birmingham, at the home of the Warwickshire Provincial Grand Lodge.

Sponsored by the Laurence Sherriffe Lodge number 3497, itself founded in 1911 by the schoolmasters of Rugby School, the Lodge was conceived as a joining Lodge and has enjoyed a healthy number of new members each year. It has a reputation of being refreshingly different.
